Principal Standards Organizations

The principal standards organizations are:

• American Boat & Yacht Council[1] • American Bureau of Shipping[2] • Bureau Veritas[3] • Det Norske Veritas[4] • Lloyd’sSecond Register of Shipping[5] • Nippon Kaiji Kyokai[6]

ABYCAmerican Boat and Yacht Council standards are sold commercially but Transport Canada publishes Construction Standards for Small Vessels (TP1332) on the web.[7]

In particular see Lloyd’s Rules & Regulations for the Classification of Special Services Craft (Lloyd’s is more conservative than ABYC).
