Principal Standards Organizations

The principal standards organizations are:

  • American Boat & Yacht Council [1]
  • American Bureau of Shipping [2]
  • Bureau Veritas [3]
  • Det Norske Veritas [4]
  • Lloyd’sSecond Register of Shipping [5]
  • Nippon Kaiji Kyokai [6]

ABYCAmerican Boat and Yacht Council standards are sold commercially but Transport Canada publishes Construction Standards for Small Vessels (TP1332) on the web.[7] In particular see Lloyd’s Rules & Regulations for the Classification of Special Services Craft (Lloyd’s is more conservative than ABYC).
