For general ambient lighting throughout, ceiling mounted, dimmable, low-voltage tri-phosphor or cold-cathode fluorescents will give the best most pleasing results. Select tri-phosphor or cold-cathode depending on how you feel about natural colour. Put dimmer switches everywhere except in companionways and the engine room.
