Television Types
There are four prevalent types of technology used by high-definition televisions (HDTV):
* Plasma—Plasmas use ultraviolet (UV) light created by igniting pockets of gas to excite red, green, and blue phosphors in the screen.* LCD—(Liquid Crystal Display) are flat-panel HDTVs through which light can pass use color filters and LCDs to block or be blocked. The LCD doesn't produce its own reveal light; this is done by from an additional cold cathode fluorescent backlightingbacklight.
* LED-LCD—(Liquid Crystal Display-Light Emitting Diode) HDTVs use LED backlighting instead of the cold cathode fluorescent backlighting used by most other LCD.
* OLED—(Organic Light-Emitting Diode)passes electricity through certain organic materials that glow in red, green, and blue to create a TV image. No other TV technology creates light directly like this.
