For general ambient DC lighting throughout, use ceiling mounted, low-voltage DC tri-phosphor or cold-cathode fluorescents for the most pleasing results. Select tri-phosphor or cold-cathode depending on how you feel about natural colour. If you are not that picky use difused LEDs. Put dimmer switches everywhere except in companionways and the engine room.
